Touch Screen (Stylus) Overview (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

Touch Screen (Stylus) functionality in Windows CE 5.0 provides support for stylus input. Many OS designs rely on stylus input rather than mouse input to enhance portability. Applications, however, process stylus events as a click of the left mouse button only, so the Touch Screen (Stylus) Catalog item does not provide as broad a range of pointer capabilities as the Mouse Catalog item. But, a great deal of input functionality, such as the Software-based Input Panel, Handwriting Recognizer Engine (HWX), and Transcriber Handwriting Recognizer Application Catalog items, require the Touch Screen (Stylus) Catalog item.

Touch Screen (Stylus) Implementation Considerations

You can include Touch Screen (Stylus) functionality by adding the Touch Screen (Stylus) Catalog item to your OS design.

The following table shows the Sysgen variable that enables Touch Screen (Stylus) functionality.

Sysgen variable Description

SYSGEN_TOUCH

When this variable is set, the Touch Screen (Stylus) Catalog item is included in the OS design.

When this variable is not set, the Touch Screen (Stylus) Catalog item is excluded from the OS design.
