DirectDraw Security

DirectDraw should be used with caution in environments that require high security.

The DirectDraw feature exists to enable high-performance multimedia applications. It does this by providing applications with the most direct path possible to the 2-D graphics hardware on a system. The implementation of DirectDraw omits many common security-oriented precautions to achieve greater 2-D graphics performance. For example, DirectDraw does not perform such tasks as checking for buffer overruns or re-authenticating requests. These implementation approaches and others can leave a DirectDraw-enabled platform open to security vulnerabilities.
