Troubleshooting: Setting up an 802.1x Network

Setting up an 802.1x network consists of many detailed steps, each of which must be implemented correctly to make your network setup work. The following are general guidelines to help you troubleshoot specific areas in your network setup:

  • If you encounter any connection and authentication problems in your network, launch the Event Viewer application from Administrative Tools on your server. This tool provides diagnostic information about different areas of your server setup and helps you isolate the problems. Also, check the online configuration pages for the access point you are trying to connect to. These pages provide detailed connection and authentication logs.
  • If you are unable to enroll your CEPC for certificates because the CA keeps denying the certificate for your wireless client, check the default system time on your CEPC and make sure that it is current.
  • If you are unable to run Enroll.exe from your CEPC, check that you have edited the Project.bib file to include Enroll.exe. If you have edited the file correctly, it appears in the release directory of your CEPC.
  • If you encounter any connectivity problems, check the network cables and adapters on your computers and devices and make sure all the items in your network are properly connected.
  • If you encounter any connectivity problems, restart IIS and IAS.
