SNMP Extension Agent

The extension agent provides the interface and a database for the information that is used to monitor network devices and processes that are using SNMP. It collects and returns information as requested by a management system.

At SNMP service startup time, the SNMP service (Snmp.dll) invokes the appropriate extension-agent DLL, which in turn implements the appropriate MIB. Windows CE ships with two extension-agent DLLs (Snmp_hostmib.dll and Snmp_mibII.dll), but you can write also a customized extension-agent application. The SNMP Extension API enables you to construct an extension-agent DLL that is capable of communicating with the SNMP service and implementing a MIB.
