Edit Control for Japanese
Microsoft® Windows® CE .NET operating system (OS) supports a Japanese Edit Control feature that allows you to configure a set of editing features for an Input Method Editor (IME). You can change the level of the Japanese Edit Control feature by setting a registry key.
The Japanese Edit Control determines the mode — level 2 or level 3 — of operation loaded in the registry at the time of IME creation. You can select level 2 mode of the Japanese Edit Control in Windows CE .NET. Microsoft Windows CE version 3.0 or earlier implements only level 3 of the Japanese edit control mode.
The following table provides a comparison between level 2 and level 3.
Feature | Level 2 | Level 3 |
---|---|---|
Composition string | The IME draws the composition string. | The Edit Control draws the composition string. |
Redraws | There are few redraws. | There are many redraws. |
Speed | Speed remains fast as the number of characters increases. | Speed decreases as the number of characters increases. |
Character sequence display | A character sequence is hidden behind the composition string.
Users can specify the colors of the composition string through an IME setting. |
The entire character sequence is displayed beside the composition string. |
Multiple character input | When a user enters characters, all characters in a composition string are visible. | The application determines the number of characters that the user can enter in the edit control. The composition string is limited by the number of characters the user can enter. |
