Parallel Download Service
The parallel download service downloads an OS image to a target device over a parallel port connection using the boot loader for Windows CE. There is no corresponding kernel transport for the parallel download service.
Platform Builder does not by default install a parallel port driver for the parallel download service. Before you can use the parallel download service, you must install the parallel port driver. To install a parallel port driver or upgrade from an earlier version of the driver, follow these steps:
- Configure the parallel ports of your target device and the development workstation to use Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP). You must configure the target device and the development workstation so that the configuration of the port on the target device matches the configuration of the port on the development workstation.
- Run the Ppshell.vbs installation script. The Ppshell.vbs file is located in the Cepb\Bin directory in the directory where you installed Platform Builder.
- Verify that interrupts are enabled on the parallel port using Device Manager.
- Restart the development workstation to enable the driver.
The parallel port driver is designed to share the parallel port with other devices, except when you run Platform Builder. However, this driver may interfere with other parallel port devices such as scanners or cameras.
You may also uninstall this driver or repair a damaged driver by running the Ppshell.vbs installation script.
