Registry Settings for the Windows CE Device
The Windows CE Terminal Services Client (CETSC) executable uses RDP binary configuration files by default.
Note The default registry values vary depending on which features are included in your platform. For more information, see Default Registry Settings.
The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client registry key controls all Terminal Services connections.
Note These values control connections at a global level, and are superceded at a connection that has these values specified.
The following table shows the named values.

BitmapCacheSize : REG_DWORD | Default is 1500. This value is the size, in KB, of the bitmap cache in memory. |
BitmapPersistCacheSize : REG_DWORD | Default is 10.This value is the size, in KB, of the 8 bpp bitmap cache file. |
BitmapPersistCache16Size : REG_DWORD | Default is 20. This value is the size, in KB, of the 16 bpp bitmap cache file. |
BitmapPersistCache24Size : REG_DWORD | Default is 30. This value is the size, in KB, of the 24 bpp bitmap cache file. |
BitmapPersistCacheLocations : REG_DWORD | Default is relative to the location from which CETSC.exe runs. This value is the path to the folder where the cache file is stored. Typically, this value is \Windows\cache. |
The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\<Connection Name> registry key controls a specific Terminal Services connection. The following table shows the named values.

Compression : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether compression is on or off. A value of 1 indicates that compression is on. A value of zero (0) indicates that compression is off. |
KeyboardHook : REG_DWORD | Default in Windows Thin Client is zero (0), and the default in Webpad is 1. A value of zero (0) indicates that ALT-TAB on the keyboard displays items on the local device, a value of 1 indicates that it displays items on the remote device, and a value of 2 indicates that the device is full-screen only. |
Screen Mode ID : REG_DWORD | Default is 2. This value indicates the mode of the screen. A value of 1 indicates that the screen displays in a window and a value of 2 indicates that the screen displays in full-screen mode. |
Domain : REG_BINARY | There is no default. This value indicates the domain of the person who can log on to the remote device. |
UserName : REG_BINARY | There is no default. This value indicates the username of a person who can log on to the remote device. |
AutoLogon : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value is largely ignored. If username and password are supplied, the user is automatically logged in. |
Auto Connect : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value is no longer used. |
Full Address : REG_SZ | There is no default. This value is the IP address of the remote device. |
MRU0 : REG_SZ | This value is reserved for system use. |
DisplayConnectionBar : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether to display the connection bar. A value of zero (0) indicates that the connection bar is not displayed, and a value of 1 indicates that it is displayed. |
Session Bpp : REG_DWORD | Default is based on the color depth of the device. This value indicates the color depth in bits per pixel (bpp). |
AudioMode : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value indicates where the audio plays. A value of zero (0) indicates that the audio plays on the host computer, a value of 1 indicates that the audio plays on the remote device, and a value of 2 indicates that the audio does not play. |
RedirectSmartCards : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether smart cards are enabled:
1 = ON 0 = OFF |
RedirectCOMPorts : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value indicates whether COM port redirection is enabled. A value of 1 indicates that COM port redirection is on, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is off. |
RedirectDrives : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value indicates whether drive redirection is enabled. A value of 1 indicates that drive redirection is on, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is off. |
RedirectPrinters : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether printer redirection is enabled. A value of 1 indicates that printer redirection is on, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is off. |
SpeedSel : REG_DWORD | Default is 4. This value is no longer used. |
AutoReconnectionEnabled : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether automatic reconnection is enabled. A value of 1 indicates that automatic reconnection is on, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is off. |
BitmapCachePersistEnable : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether bitmap caching is selected. A value of zero (0) indicates that bitmap caching is not selected, and a value of 1 indicates that it is selected. |
Disable themes : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value indicates whether themes are enabled or disabled. A value of 1 indicates that themes are enabled, and a value of zero (0) indicates that themes are disabled. |
Disable menu anims : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether menu animation is enabled or disabled. A value of 1 indicates that animation is enabled, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is disabled. |
Disable full window drag : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether full window drag capability is enabled or disabled. A value of 1 indicates that full window drag is enabled, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is disabled. |
Disable wallpaper : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether wallpaper is disabled or enabled. A value of 1 indicates that wallpaper is enabled, and a value of zero (0) indicates that it is disabled. |
Alternate Shell : REG_BINARY | There is no default. This value indicates the alternate shell or startup application. |
Password 51 : REG_BINARY | There is no default. This value indicates the password of the person identified in UserName. |
ConnBeingEdited : REG_DWORD | This value is reserved for system use. |
DesktopHeight : REG_DWORD | Default is 600. This value indicates height of the display, in pixels. |
DesktopWidth : REG_DWORD | Default is 800. This value indicates width of the display, in pixels. |
MaxReconnectAttempts : REG_DWORD | Default is 20. This value indicates the maximum attempts to reconnect during automatic reconnect. |
BitmapPersistence : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether to store a portion of the bitmap cache in the file system. A value of zero (0) indicates that persistent bitmap cache is not used, and a value of 1 indicates that it is used. |
FullScreen : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether to display the image in full screen. A value of zero (0) indicates that the image is not displayed in full screen mode. A value of 1 indicates that the image is displayed in full screen. |
Connect to console : REG_DWORD | Default is zero (0). This value is used only in non-Windows thin client configurations. It indicates the console to connect to from the command line. A value of zero (0) indicates that the command connects to a terminal services session. Windows XP professional ignores this setting. A value of 1 indicates that the command connects to the host console. |
Server Port : REG_DWORD | Default is 3398. This value is used only in non-Windows thin client configurations. It indicates the alternate Winsock port for the RDP. |
Disable CTRL+ALT+DEL : REG_DWORD | Default is 1. This value indicates whether to disable the CTRL+ALT+DEL requirement to log on. A value of zero (0) displays the initial dialog box that requests that the user press CTRL+ALT+DEL. A value of 1 disables the dialog box. |
BitmapCacheSize : REG_DWORD | Default is 1500. This value is the size, in MB, of the bitmap cache in memory. If this value exists, it takes precedence over the value specified at the global level. |
BitmapPersistCacheSize : REG_DWORD | Default is 10. This value is the size, in MB, of the 8 bpp bitmap cache file. If this value exists, it takes precedence over the value specified at the global level. |
BitmapPersistCache16Size : REG_DWORD | Default is 20. This value is the size, in MB, of the 16 bpp bitmap cache file. If this value exists, it takes precedence over the value specified at the global level. |
BitmapPersistCache24Size : REG_DWORD | Default is 30. This value is the size, in MB, of the 24 bpp bitmap cache file. |
BitmapPersistCacheLocations : REG_DWORD | Default is relative to the location from which CETSC.exe runs. This value is the path to the folder where the cache file is stored. Typically, this value is \Windows\cache. If this value exists, it takes precedence over the value specified at the global level. |
PluginLists : REG_DWORD | There is no default. This value lists plug-in DLLs. |
Shell Working Directory : REG_DWORD | There is no default. This value indicates the folder that contains the alternate shell or startup application. |
Disable Cursor setting : REG_DWORD | This value is for system use. |
