Windows Server 2003 System Performance Counters

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

The following counters are standard in the Windows Server 2003 operating system, are installed by Setup by default. Note that some may only be visible if you install or start the associated service.

In addition, some counters are considered "costly," meaning that it takes a long time to collect data from them. These counters do not appear in System Monitor and can only be viewed using Showperf.exe or other performance-related tools in the Windows Server 2003 Technical Reference. The following are examples of costly counters:
