Make a direct network connection by using a DirectParallel cable

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To make a direct network connection by using a DirectParallel cable

  1. Open Network Connections.

  2. Double-click New Connection Wizard, and then click Next.

  3. Click Set up an advanced connection, and then click Next.

  4. Click Connect directly to another computer, click Next, and then do one of the following:

    • If you want your computer to act as the host, click Host, and click Next. Click Direct Parallel (LPT1) in the Device for this connection, and click Next.

    • If you want your computer to act as the guest, click Guest, and click Next. Type the name of the other computer in Computer Name, and click Next.

  5. Follow the remaining instructions in the New Connection Wizard.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
