Enabling Emergency Management Services after setup (x86-based systems)

To enable Emergency Management Services after setting up a Windows Server 2003 operating system, you must edit the Boot.ini file to enable Windows loader console redirection and Special Administration Console (SAC). The Boot.ini file controls startup; it is located on the system partition root.

Use Bootcfg (Bootcfg.exe) to edit the Boot.ini file.

To view examples of how to edit the Boot.ini file, see "Emergency Management Services" at the Microsoft Windows Resource Kits Web site.

You can enable Emergency Management Services console redirection in the Recovery Console. You do this by editing the Winnt.sif file, located in the Cmdcons folder on the system partition root. Note that the Winnt.sif for the Recovery Console is separate from the floppy disk Winnt.sif file that is referenced in Enabling Emergency Management Services during a new installation.

For specific information about setting Recovery Console Bootcfg parameters for Emergency Management Services, see "Emergency Management Services" at the Microsoft Windows Resource Kits Web site.
