Connect MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, and OS/2 clients

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To connect MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, and OS/2 clients

  1. Install the appropriate printer driver on the client computer.

  2. Redirect an output port (such as LPT1) of the client computer to the logical printer (in the form of \\PrintServerName\sharename) on the Windows Server 2003 family print server, using the command specific to its operating system.

Typically, the command for clients that add the Clients for Microsoft Networks option is:

    **net use lptx\\server_name\**share_name

Notes

  • Other Microsoft clients include Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups, MS-DOS, and OS/2 with the LAN Manager 2.x client installed.

  • If the client is not connected to the network, install the network client on the client computer first, and then verify active connection to the network.

  • Fonts and forms available on a Windows Server 2003 family operating system might not be available on client computers running other operating systems.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
