Set the DHCP database backup path

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To set the DHCP database backup path

Open DHCP.
In the console tree, click the applicable DHCP server.

On the Action menu, click Properties.
In the Server Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, click Backup path, and delete the default backup path (C:\WINDOWS\System32\dhcp\backup).
Type the backup path you prefer, or click Browse to select a folder location.

Notes

To open DHCP, click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click DHCP.
This procedure describes how to specify the path DHCP uses when backing up the database. It does not set the path used by DHCP to store the primary database on the applicable server.
By default, the DHCP database is automatically backed up every hour. However, when you change the backup folder location, an automatic backup of the database does not occur. You can back up the database immediately after changing the backup folder location by using Backup on the DHCP console Action menu. Automatic backups will then occur every hour.
