Clean an automated library

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To clean an automated library

  1. Open Removable Storage.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the library you want to clean.

    Where?

    • Removable Storage (computer name)/Libraries/applicable library
  3. Click Cleaner Management.

  4. Follow the instructions in the Cleaner Management wizard.

Notes

  • To complete this procedure, you need the appropriate administrative credentials for the affected Removable Storage item. To maintain system security, rather than logging in as an administrator, log in as a user without administrative credentials, and run Removable Storage as an administrator by right-clicking the Computer Management icon, clicking Run As, and choosing an account in the local Administrators group.

  • To open Removable Storage, click Start and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, double-click Storage and then click Removable Storage.

  • To complete this procedure, you must insert a cleaning cartridge into the library when prompted. Do not insert a cleaning cartridge using the same method used for inserting regular tapes (such as through the insert/eject port). Follow the instructions in the Cleaner Management wizard.
