Create or delete an application directory partition

To create or delete an application directory partition

Open Command Prompt.
Type:

ntdsutil
At the ntdsutil command prompt, type:

domain management
At the domain management command prompt, type:

connection
At the server connections command prompt, type:

connect to server ServerName
At the server connections command prompt, type:

quit
At the domain management command prompt, do one of the following:
- To create an application directory partition, type:
  
  create nc ApplicationDirectoryPartition DomainController
- To delete an application directory partition, type:
  
  delete nc ApplicationDirectoryPartition

Value	Description
ServerName	The DNS name of the domain controller to which you want to connect.
ApplicationDirectoryPartition	The distinguished name of the application directory partition that you want to create or delete. For example, the distinguished name of the application directory partition test.microsoft.com is dc=test,dc=Microsoft,dc=com.
DomainController	The DNS name of the domain controller on which to create or delete the application directory partition. Type NULL to create the application directory partition on the domain controller to which you are currently connected.

Caution

Removing the last replica of an application directory partition will result in the permanent loss of any data contained in the partition. For more information, see Related Topics.

Notes

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group or the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.
To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt.
