Exclude Windows Versions

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) 1.0 client is supported on computers that are running either Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows Millennium Edition. However, because these operating systems do not support many of the security features included in later versions of Windows, you might want to restrict users from using them to consume rights-protected content. You must enable Windows version exclusion on each cluster on which you want it to take effect.

Membership in the local AD RMS Enterprise Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To exclude versions of Windows

  1. Open the Active Directory Rights Management Services console and expand the AD RMS cluster.

  2. In the console tree, expand Exclusion Policies, and then click Windows Versions.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Enable Windows Version Exclusion to exclude Microsoft® Windows 98 Second Edition and Microsoft® Windows Millennium Edition.

Note

To disable the exclusion of these Windows versions, click Disable Windows Version Exclusion.
