Event ID 1018 — DHCP Client IPv6 Availability

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) can lease both Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) addresses. If IPv6 is not available, the DHCP service uses IPv4 only.

Resolve

Reconfigure TCP/IPv6

TCP/IPv6 might be misconfigured.

To diagnose and repair the TCP/IP configuration:

  1. Click Start, right-click Network, and then click Properties.
  2. Under Tasks, click Manage Network Connections.
  3. Right-click the interface you want to repair, and then click Diagnose.
  4. This will diagnose and repair any configuration issues.

Verify

To verify that the DHCP client has an IPv6 address assigned to it:

  1. At the DHCP-enabled client computer, click Start, in Start Search type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  2. To verify a DHCP client lease, type ipconfig /all to view lease-status information.
  3. The output of the ipconfig command should show an IPv6 address marked "preferred."
