To enable the streaming of content to clients over networks (either an intranet or the Internet), the Windows Media Services service must be running on the Windows Media server.

Resolve
Start the Windows Media Services service
Start the Windows Media Services service if it is stopped, or restart it if it is running.
Start the Windows Media Services service
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To start the Windows Media Services service:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services, click Windows Media Services.
- On the Action menu, click Start.
Restart the Windows Media Services service
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in the local Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To restart the Windows Media Services service:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services, click Windows Media Services.
- On the Action menu, click Restart.
Verify
To verify that the Windows Media Services service is running:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services, verify that the Status for Windows Media Services is Started.
