Resources for Message Queuing Have Timed Out in a Server Cluster

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Describes a specific problem with Message Queuing.

This problem typically occurs when attempting to bring a clustered instance of the Message Queuing service online and the Message Queuing service takes longer than the default cluster resource timeout period of 3 minutes to start. If the clustered instance of the Message Queueing service cannot be started within the specified timeout period then the cluster service will flag the resource with a status of "Failed".

Diagnosis

The Message Queuing service may take longer than three minutes to start, depending on recovery scenarios and the number of messages stored.

Resolution

Increase the Pending timeout value of the clustered Message Queuing resource to accommodate scenarios where the Message Queuing service may take longer than 3 minutes to start.

Verification

After increasing the Pending timeout value of the clustered Message Queuing resource, bring the resource online.
