IIS 7 provides default settings for Common Gateway Interface (CGI) applications, but you can change those settings as needed.
Prerequisites
For information about the levels at which you can perform this procedure, and the modules, handlers, and permissions that are required to perform this procedure, see CGI Settings Feature Requirements (IIS 7).
Exceptions to feature requirements
- None
To configure CGI settings
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To Use the UI
Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In Features View, double-click CGI.
On the CGI page, edit settings as necessary.
When finished, click Apply in the Actions pane.
Command-line
Specify CGI time-out settings
To specify CGI time-out settings, use the following syntax:
**appcmd set config section:cgi /timeout:**timeSpan
The variable timeSpan is the time-out, in seconds, for CGI applications. The default is 00:15:00 seconds. For example, to set the CGI time-out setting to 30 seconds, type the following at the command prompt, and then press Enter:
**appcmd set config /section:cgi /timeout:**00:30:00
Enable or disable new console usage
To enable or disable whether a CGI application runs in its own console, use the following syntax:
appcmd set config /section:cgi /createCGIWithNewConsole:True|False
True sets each CGI application to create a new console when you start it. False sets CGI applications to run without a console. The default value is False.
Enable or disable user impersonation
To enable or disable whether a CGI process is created in the system context or in the context of the requesting user, use the following syntax:
appcmd set config /section:cgi /createProcessAsUser:True|False
True creates a CGI process in the context of the requesting user. False creates a CGI process in the system context. The default value is True.
For more information about Appcmd.exe, see Appcmd.exe (IIS 7).
