Remove a Provider (IIS 7)

Remove a provider in IIS when your application no longer uses a provider-based service to store data in a database or other data store.
Note
Removing a configuration setting removes the setting at the local level and from any child levels that inherit the setting.

To remove a provider
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To Use the UI
Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In Features View, double-click Providers.
On the Providers page, select the provider type from the Feature drop-down list.
On the Providers page, select the provider you want to remove, click Remove in the Actions pane, and then click Yes.
Command-line
To remove a provider, use the following syntax:
**appcmd set config /commit:MACHINE /section:**provider /-"provider. [name='string']"
The variable provider is the provider feature, for example, membership for .NET User providers, roleManager for .NET Role providers, or profile for .NET Profile providers. The variable name string is the name of the provider that you want to remove.
