Event ID 2507 — Shared Resource Availablilty

SMB (Server Message Block) is the protocol Windows uses to share files, printers, serial ports, and also to communicate between computers using named pipes and mail slots. A share must be properly referenced for it to be available.

Resolve

Recreate a shared resource

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To recreate a share:

  1. Using Windows Explorer, locate the folder that you want to share. Right-click that folder and then click Share.
  2. In the File Sharing dialog box, type the name of the person or group you want to share files with and then click Add.
  3. Under Permission Level, click the arrow next to the permission level for that person or group and select the desired level.
  4. When you are finished choosing the people or groups you want to share with, click Share.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  5. Click Done to close the File Sharing dialog box.

Verify

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the shared resource is available:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Type net share sharename, to verify the share is properly configured on the server.
  3. In the list of results, confirm in the Permissions field that you have permission to access the share.
  4. Go to another computer on the network and verify you can access the share.
