Event Details

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 2007
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Spooler-LPRMON
Version: 6.0
Symbolic Name: LPRLOG_CANNOT_OPEN_PORT
Message: The Line Printer Remote (LPR) print monitor failed to open the port named %1. This can occur if the server name for this port is incorrect. Printing to this port will fail until the problem is resolved.

Resolve

Restart the server or troubleshoot hardware problems

This problem occurs when the Line Printer Remote (LPR) service cannot read or write registry settings. Typically, this is symptomatic of a more significant system problem. LPR may not be correctly configured until the problem is resolved.

Possible resolutions include:

  • Notify users, and then restart the print server.
  • Use hardware diagnostic utilities, if available, to troubleshoot potential hardware issues with the print device or server hardware.
  • Restore the print server from a stable Windows backup.

Verify

To verify that you resolved the problem, print the document again to a shared printer that uses the Line Printer Daemon (LPD) service. This tests printing using the Line Printer Remote (LPR) service on the client computer.
