Send a Message to a User

You can send a message to a user session in Terminal Services Manager by using the Send Message action.

To send a message to a user

  1. In Terminal Services Manager, in the left pane, click the terminal server on which the user session is running.

  2. To send a message to a user, do either of the following:

    • On the Users tab, right-click the user session, and then click Send Message.

    • On the Sessions tab, right-click the user session, and then click Send Message.

  3. In the Send Message dialog box, type the message that you want to send to the user. Press CTRL+ENTER to start a new line in the message.

  4. To send the message to the user, click OK.

Additional considerations

  • You must have Message special access permission to send a message to a user.

  • You can send messages only to users whose sessions are in the active or connected state.

  • You can send messages to notify users of impending disconnection, server status, or other system information.

  • You can use the msg command-line tool to send a message to a user.
