There Are Problems Communicating with IPX Computers

Describes a specific problem with Message Queuing. Includes step-by-step instructions for fixing the problem.

This problem typically occurs when attempting to use a Message Queuing application to connect to a remote computer that uses the IPX protocol. Message Queuing applications are unable to communicate over the IPX protocol.

Diagnosis

Attempts to use a Message Queuing application to connect to a remote computer that uses only the IPX protocol fail.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, enable the TCP/IP protocol on any remote computers that you wish to connect to with a Message Queuing application.

To enable the TCP/IP protocol

  1. Logon to the remote computer.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, click Network Connections.

  3. Double-click an enabled network connection to display the <network connection> Status dialog box.

  4. Click Properties to display the <network connection> Properties dialog box.

  5. Check the option for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/Ipv6) and/or Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/Ipv4) and click OK.

Verification

After enabling the TCP/IP protocol on the remote computer, connect to the remote computer with a Message Queuing application.
