Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use this procedure to configure a client computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista with a fixed (static) IP address and Domain Name System (DNS) configuration. The procedure to follow for other versions of Microsoft Windows may be similar.

If you are not the administrator of your network, you must obtain the information to complete this procedure from your network administrator.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).
