The Web Deployment Agent Service (Web Deploy remote service or remote agent service) is a Windows service that enables administrators to perform Web Deploy operations such as dump and sync over a network. By default, the remote service runs by using the Network Service account.

The Web Deploy remote service enables you to call provider methods remotely by using the HTTP protocol. The Web Deploy remote service listens for HTTP requests on a specified port and URL, and then parses the URL to determine which operations to perform.

The URL on which it listens is known as the ListenURL. The default ListenURL is https://+:80/MsDeployAgentService. The remote service uses the part of the URL after "MsDeployAgentService" to execute provider-related commands.
