Add/Edit Media Entry Dialog Box

Use the Add Media Entry and Edit Media Entry dialog boxes to either add or edit media entries for a selected playlist.

Element Name Description

Location type

Select one of the following location types that specifies where the media asset that is referenced in the media entry is stored:

  • Physical Path. Specifies that the media asset is stored on the local computer (for example, C:\inetpub\wwwroot\media\file_name.wma) or on a shared network resource (for example, \\network_computer_name\shared_folder_name\media\file_name.wmv).

    Note
    You cannot add a media asset that is referenced by a physical path of a playlist until you enable the Allow absolute/UNC paths setting in the Edit Feature Settings dialog box.

  • Relative URI. Specifies that the media asset is stored in a folder relative to the site root (%SystemDrive%\inetpub\wwwroot). For example, if a media asset named File.mp3 is located in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\media, the relative URI reference is media/file.mp3.

  • Remote URL. Specifies that the media asset is served from a remote computer (for example, https://server_name/folder_name/file_name.isx).

Content location

Specify the media entry content location that corresponds to the selected Location type.

When you create media entries for media assets that are referenced by physical paths, you can select multiple media entries for the playlist at the same time by using the Browse button to open the Select Media Files dialog box and then specifying the content location of the media files that you want. To select adjacent media assets in the dialog box, press and hold the SHIFT key when selecting. To select nonadjacent media assets, press and hold the CTRL key when selecting. You cannot use the Browse button to specify the content location for multiple media entries when the location type is a relative URI or remote URL.

Title

To specify a title for the media entry that will help you distinguish it from other media entries for the playlist on the Add/Edit Playlist feature page, click the check box, and then type a title in the text box. The media entry title can be viewed by clients as they render the associated media asset.

Disable skip forward

Select this check box to prevent clients from skipping the media entry. This setting does not apply to media assets with a remote URL location type.

Note

This setting can be overridden by the Minimum percentage downloaded before skip allowed setting in the Edit Feature Settings dialog box, which specifies how much of a media asset must be downloaded before a client can skip to the next media entry in the playlist. If you select Disable skip forward for a media entry, you can ensure that clients must download the entire media asset that it references by entering a value of 100 for the Minimum percentage downloaded before skip allowed setting, which will specify that 100 percent of all media assets must be downloaded by clients.

Disable skip backward

Select this check box to prevent clients from repeating playback of the previously played media entry. This setting does not apply to media assets with a remote URL location type.

Disable seek

Select this check box to prevent clients from seeking to other parts of the media entry. This setting does not apply to media assets with a remote URL location type.

Note

You can add multiple media assets to a playlist in a single media entry by creating a media entry that references another Web playlist file (a file that has an .isx file name extension). This is known as "playlist nesting." For more information, see Nested Playlists.

Note

You can customize the content delivered to clients by specifying that the media asset is a URL to a CGI script or a Web application on a remote computer. The script or application can use IIS server variables in the URL to return dynamic media assets (for example, an advertisement based on the client's geographical location). For more information, see Adding HTTPD Media Entries.

Note

If you add a media asset that is protected by credentials to a playlist, you must specify the credentials (user name, password, and log on method) for the client on the Impersonation feature page. For more information, see Adding Entries Protected by Credentials.
