How to change associate an Azure Active Directory to a Subscription

If you made it here, good work!  This article is a little out dated as some of the features to achieve only exists in the AUX portal which is deprecating.  Check here for most up-to-date instructions to achieve the same.

I created an Azure Active Directory some time ago and found that it was not linked to a subscription, because when I changed between my Azure Active Directory domains, as seen in Figure 1, when I tried to create some resources within it, I got the message shown in Figure 2.

Switch directories - You are currently signed into the '' directory which does not have any subscriptions. You have other directories you can switch to or you can sign up for a new subscription. Sign up for a new subscription

I was able to link the Azure Active Directory domain I created to an existing subscription by changing focus to that Azure Active Directory, see Figure 1, then navigate to the Azure Active Directory blade, Figure 3 and then click on the Classic portal link.

Then, in the classic portal (AUX portal), click on the Subscriptions link, then the Manage subscriptions/directory link, then select the subscription in which you want to link the Azure Active Directory to, Figure 4.

Select the EDIT DIRECTORY link, Figure 4 in GREEN and then select the DIRECTORY to link from the drop-down for the subscription shown in the SUBSCRIPTIONS textbox, Figure 5.

Next –> confirm and then…wait for it, wait….patience…2 minutes later… I was able to switch back to current Azure Management portal and create resources within the Azure Active Directory, Figure 6.

This wasn’t so hard to figure out, but when I searched for the information I didn’t find anything so decided to document and post it.
