IDot11ExtUIProperty::Dot11ExtUIPropertyIsStandardSecurity method

Important  The Native 802.11 Wireless LAN interface is deprecated in Windows 10 and later. Please use the WLAN Device Driver Interface (WDI) instead. For more information about WDI, see WLAN Universal Windows driver model.

The IDot11ExtUIProperty::Dot11ExtUIPropertyIsStandardSecurity method allows the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL to specify whether a security property extension extends the standard 802.1X security methods that are supported by the Native 802.11 802.1X module.

Syntax

HRESULT Dot11ExtUIPropertyIsStandardSecurity(
  [out] BOOL                       *fIsStandardSecurity,
  [out] DOT11_EXT_UI_SECURITY_TYPE *dot11ExtUISecurityType
);

Parameters

  • fIsStandardSecurity [out]
    A pointer to a Boolean value that defines whether the security method is a standard 802.1X method supported by the operating system.

    If the method sets * fIsStandardSecurity to FALSE, the security property extension is not a standard security method.

    If the method sets * fIsStandardSecurity to TRUE, the security property extension is a standard security method. The type of the security method is specified through the dot11ExtUISecurityType parameter.

  • dot11ExtUISecurityType [out]
    The type of standard security method as specified through the DOT11_EXT_UI_SECURITY_TYPE enumeration. If the IDot11ExtUIProperty::Dot11ExtUIPropertyIsStandardSecurity method sets * fIsStandardSecurity to TRUE, the method must set * dot11ExtUISecurityType to one of the following values.

    • DOT11_EXT_UI_SECURITY_8021X
      Specifies the IEEE 802.1X security method as defined in the IEEE 802.1X-2001 standard.

    • DOT11_EXT_UI_SECURITY_WPA_ENTERPRISE
      Specifies the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security method as defined in the WPA specification.

    • DOT11_EXT_UI_SECURITY_WPA2_ENTERPRISE
      Specifies the Robust Security Network Association (RSNA) security method as defined in the IEEE 802.11i-2004 standard.

Return value

If the call succeeds, the method returns S_OK.

If the call fails, the method returns the appropriate error code defined in Winerror.h.

Remarks

Before the Network Configuration UI displays the properties of the Security tab, the operating system queries the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL for the security property extensions it supports. The operating system queries these extensions by calling the DLL's IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUIProperties method.

To determine whether the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL supports extensions to the 802.1X security settings, the operating system will call the IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUIProperties method and pass a value of DOT11_EXT_UI_KEYEXTENSION to the ExtType parameter. For each IDot11ExtUIProperty COM Interface returned from this method, the operating system will call the interface's IDot11ExtUIProperty::Dot11ExtUIPropertyIsStandardSecurity method to determine whether the interface extends the security methods supported by the Native 802.11 802.1X module.

For more information about the process through which the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL extends the 802.1X settings on the Security tab, see Extending Microsoft 802.1X Security Settings.

For more information about the 802.1X module and other Native 802.11 components, see Native 802.11 Software Architecture.
