Microsoft Announces New Enterprise Search Products

I am really excited to let you know that we announced two new Enterprise Search products that may help you with your search needs.

The first, Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express, is a FREE product that takes the enterprise class search capabilities of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and makes them available as a stand-alone, downloadable server ready to search key content sources like file shares, SharePoint sites, Lotus Notes repositories, and Exchange Public Folders – with no preset document limits. Search Server Express is designed to be easy to setup and configure and can get you from downloading to searching in as little as 30 minutes. An RC is available from www.microsoft.com/enterprisesearch, and the RTM is planned for availability in the first half of 2008. If you are at all in need of search across some of your intranet or public website content, I would encourage trying it out.

The second product introduced, Microsoft Search Server 2008, is a volume licensing offering that will be available in the first half of 2008 also and has the same feature set as Search Server Express plus the added ability to scale the application beyond one server box for additional document indexing scalability as well as high availability and load-balancing benefits.

In addition, we announced that in early 2008, we plan to make available free connectors to EMC Documentum and IBM FileNet repositories that will be available for use across our Enterprise Search product offerings from Search Server Express and Search Server to Office SharePoint Server 2007 as well.

Feel free to download the Search Server Express RC anytime from here.
