Use allocations to visualize how your emissions are generated in multiple methods without impacting the default emissions reporting. With allocations, you can see how your emissions are distributed based on any parameter that you choose.

This article uses the following terms.

Term Definition
Allocation source The entity that you want to allocate your data from, either a facility or an organizational unit.
Allocation destination The entity that you want to allocate your data to. It's a type of reference data such as an organizational unit.
Allocation method Defines the parameters you want to use to allocate your data. It includes the sources, destinations, and the parameter you want to use to determine how to distribute your data. You define how much of your emissions go from and to a destination.
Allocation profile A feature in Microsoft Sustainability Manager that lets you define how to allocate your emissions using your allocation method details.

Set up allocation methods

An allocation method defines how you want to allocate your data by letting you select where to pull emissions from and where to allocate them to within your organization. Before you can run an allocation profile, you need to create your allocation methods and allocation method details in your reference data.

Allocation method details refer to the named methods you create and link the details of those methods together. You can choose to allocate by percentages or by total amount, but you don't need to include both. After your allocation methods and method details are created in your environment, the methods are available for selection when you set up an allocation profile.

Add an allocation profile

An allocation profile configures the allocation methods to run against a data set. These allocation methods define how to distribute the emissions from the facility or organizational unit where they're tracked to the desired entity.

The following fields are required on the Allocation profiles page:

Field Description
Emissions source Select at least one emission source.
Start date Select the date on which you want to start including emissions in your allocation profile.
End date Select the date on which you want to stop including emissions in your allocation profile.
  1. Select Allocation profiles (preview) from the Data area of the left navigation.

  2. Select the filter icon:

  3. Below the And field, select Add to add filters.

  4. Find and select the entity to filter by.

  5. Select selection criteria, such as equals.

  6. Finalize the condition for selection (for example, Facility Equals Contoso Factory).

  7. Add rows for more filters as you require.

  8. Select Automatically run when data is refreshed, unless the allocation is a one-time allocation. If you select this option, your schedule matches the schedule of the data that is being pulled in by the criteria of your filters.

  9. Continue to the next page by selecting Next.

    • Profile method: Select at least one profile method. You can add methods to run on the same data you chose in the first page by selecting Add.

    • Profile period: Select the period that you would like to allocate your data across.

  10. Continue to the next page by selecting Next.

    • Allocation profile name: Give your profile a name. Be as descriptive as possible.

    • Description: You aren't required to add a description but it can be helpful if you have multiple similar profiles.

  11. Select Done to save your profiles.

  12. On the action pane, select Run allocation to start the allocation job.

The Allocation profiles page contains tiles that show high-level information, so that you can quickly learn the health of your profiles and associated allocation jobs. The information on the tiles includes the status, time of the last run, allocation start and end time, allocation methods, and periods.
