You can use potency management to define an item to have a specified concentration of an active ingredient. The exact concentration of the active ingredient is defined as the potency of the item. This definition of potency applies only to items that are associated with a tracking dimension group in which the Batch number dimension is active and is set to primary stocking. You can manage potency to adjust the quantity of material that is required for production of the specified item, to calculate the amount that is paid to a vendor for the item, or to calculate the sales price of an item.

To set up a batch-controlled item as a potency item, you must first define a batch attribute that defines the potency of the item. Batch attributes are characteristics of raw materials and finished goods that make up inventory batches. For more information, see Assign batch attributes to a potency item.
