Chord Paths
When a segment draws chords from a chordmap, it selects chords from the Signpost List and inserts them wherever a signpost marker occurs. Signpost chords do not have to be in the Chord Path Window to be eligible for selection. However, to add interest to the music, you can create chord paths leading from one signpost to another.
Chord paths are generally from three to six chords in length. A chord path proceeds from a beginning signpost chord to an end signpost chord, and passes through any number of connection chords.
The following figure shows a simple chord path with a 2CM beginning signpost, followed by 2Fm and 1A7 connection chords, and leading to a 2DM end signpost.
Beginning signposts and connection chords can have multiple paths leading from them, so that a chord can belong to several different paths, as shown in the following figure.
It is not necessary for every path to include a chord at every beat where a chord is available. For example, in the preceding figure there could be a direct connection between the 2Fm chord and one or both end signposts, bypassing the 1A7 and 2B7 chords.
Chord paths always include at least two signpost markers, and can include more. For more information, see the following topics:
