Signpost List
Signpost chords are the primary chordmap elements used by a segment. When chords are composed and placed in the Chord Track, a signpost chord is placed at each beat where there is a group marker in the Signpost Track. To be eligible for placement in the chord track, a chord must be in the Signpost list and be assigned to at least one signpost group.
The Signpost list has 16 columns, labeled as follows:
C1 and C2
SP
Signpost chords.
1 to 7 and A to F
Signpost Groups to which each signpost chord belongs.
Columns of the Signpost list can be resized by dragging a border in the top row.
The primary elements in the Signpost list are the signpost chords listed in the SP column, as shown in the following figure.
The text style of the chord gives information about its status, as shown in the following table.
Text style | Status |
Bold | The chord structure matches that of a signpost in the Chord Path Window. |
Italic | Chord structure does not match any signpost chords in the Chord Path window. The signpost can still be selected in chord composition, but will never occur before or after connection chords. |
For information on how chords are determined to be matching, see Maintaining Chord Consistency.
You can enter a chord in the Signpost list in any of the following ways:
- In the SP column of the list, click the box labeled <new> to enter a new chord. Edit the chord as necessary.
- Cut or copy a chord from the Chord Palette or Chord Path window. Right-click on a box in the SP column and select Paste from the shortcut menu.
- Drag a chord from the Chord Palette to a box in the SP column.
- Drag a chord from the Chord Path window to a box in the SP column.
To enter a chord without replacing one already in the list, drag or paste it to the box labeled <new>, as shown in the following figure:
Dragging a chord from the chord palette or Chord Path window ensures that the chords in the Signpost list have properties matching other chords throughout the entire chordmap. For more information, see Maintaining Chord Consistency.
You can also create a new instance of a chord already in the Signpost list, by copying it to the Clipboard and then pasting it to the <new> box, or by dragging it there while pressing CTRL. You can then edit the Chord Properties of the new chord to differentiate it from the original one.
To delete a chord from the Signpost list, click it and press DELETE.
