Creating Patterns and Motifs in the Project Tree
Creating patterns and motifs in the project tree gives you more options than creating them in the Style Designer Window.
To create a new pattern or motif in the project tree, right-click on the style component to display the shortcut menu shown in the following figure.
You can also use the shortcut menu for the Motifs or Patterns folder of the style.
On the shortcut menu, select one of the following:
Motif or Pattern
These choices are called New Motif and New Pattern on the shortcut menus for the Motifs and Patterns folders.
A dialog box similar to the following figure is displayed.
Select Create an empty pattern (motif) to insert a pattern or motif not based on any existing pattern.
Select Create a pattern (motif) with parts linked to an existing pattern or motif to insert a pattern or motif copied from the pattern or motif you select from the list. All the properties, parts, notes, continuous controllers, and variation switch points are copied from the source, and all the parts are linked to their copies. Later, you can selectively unlink parts if you like. For more information, see Linking Parts.
Note When you create a linked pattern, it takes all its properties from the pattern or motif it is linked to. However, the properties themselves are not linked, and can be changed for each pattern independently.
Import MIDI File as Motif or Import MIDI File as Pattern
The Import MIDI File to Pattern (Motif) dialog box is displayed. Locate the MIDI file and click Open.
The MIDI file is imported in its entirety, including all notes, continuous controller data, tempo, and length. The instrument patch and channel assignments are imported into the style as a band. However, the volume and pan settings imported with the MIDI file are contained in continuous controller tracks. For more information, see Conflicts Between Bands and Continuous Controllers and Importing a MIDI File as a Segment.
