Edit GUID Dialog Box

DirectMusic Producer uses globally unique identifiers (GUIDs) to identify some components that might be referenced by other components. Because it is almost impossible to create two components with the same GUID, this is a more precise means of distinguishing components than using file names.

The Info Tab of some components contains an Edit GUID button that displays the following dialog box.

Click Create New GUID to generate a new value.

Note GUIDs are unique because they are automatically generated. You should not manually edit a GUID. Use the Edit GUID dialog box only to create a new GUID for a component because the component has changed since it was last distributed, or to copy the GUID to the Clipboard for inclusion in program code or component documentation.
