Moving and Copying Notes by Using the Clipboard

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

Using the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands, you can move and copy notes within the same editing window or to another pattern or sequence part, even in another design module. You can also copy notes to and from other MIDI sequencing applications.

When you use the Paste command to place notes in an editing window, the notes are pasted beginning at the beat division where the Insertion Point is.

You have two options for how notes are pasted:

  • Merge

The contents of the Clipboard merge into the beats in the part or sequence. No existing notes or MIDI data are replaced. This is the behavior when pasting by using CTRL+V.

  • Overwrite

The contents of the Clipboard overwrite data in the region they fill. If you paste in a full measure of notes, all existing notes in the destination measure are replaced.

Notes from a single track or part strip are pasted into all selected tracks or part strips, or into the active strip if no strips are selected. The destination editing window does not have to be maximized.
