PChannel Volume and Pan

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

The volume setting of a PChannel controls its relative volume compared to other PChannels in the band. The pan setting controls the relative volume of the PChannel on the left and right speakers.

Note Volume and pan settings for the instruments in a band are often made by Continuous Controllers contained in separate parts of a segment or pattern. Changes you make in a band can be overridden by continuous controllers. For more information, see Conflicts Between Bands and Continuous Controllers.

Volume and pan settings for a PChannel can be set in either the PChannel Properties window or by using the Volume and Pan Graphical Interface. Editing the volume and pan settings in the Properties window is useful for making fine adjustments. The graphical interface is handy for adjusting the relative balance and pan positions for all instruments in the band while listening to the band play a segment or style, and for adjusting the settings for several PChannels at once.

The Properties window contains the following settings for volume and pan:

  • Vol check box

If selected, the volume setting is applied. If not selected, the previous setting continues to be used.

  • Vol

Volume, in the range from 0 through 127.

  • Pan check box

If selected, the pan setting is applied. If not selected, the previous setting continues to be used.

  • Pan

Pan, ranging from L63, corresponding to a hard left pan setting, to R64, corresponding to a hard right pan setting.
