To create a new segment

  1. On the File menu, click New.

  2. In the File Types list, click Segment.

  3. Click OK to automatically select a new default name for the segment, such as Segment1. You can also deselect Use Default Names to enable the Name box, enter a name for the segment, and click OK. The Segment Length dialog box is displayed as follows.

  4. In the Segment Length dialog box, set the length of the segment, in either measures or clock time, depending on the option selected. If you like, you can add Extra Measures as well. You will be able to change these values later by using the Segment Properties window.

  5. Click OK to close the Segment Length dialog box. The Add New Tracks dialog box shown in the following diagram appears.

  6. In the list, select a track type or types to insert. For more information about the different track types, see Segment Tracks. You can always add tracks later. A time signature track is added to the segment by default, so there's no need to select this type.

  7. Click OK. An icon for the new segment is added to the project, and the segment is opened in an editing window.
