Before you perform this procedure, confirm that:
You have read the topic Manage import connections.
Your system is running either the Standard or Enterprise version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
You are familiar with your organization's policies and plan for importing user profiles.
Important
Administrators must have access to the Shared Services Provider (SSP) administration site, and must have the Manage user profiles permission enabled to complete this procedure.
If you are importing Active Directory data from the current domain or the entire forest for the current domain, you do not have to separately add and configure import connections.
If you need to connect to data in LDAP directory services, multiple domains or forests, or the Business Data Catalog, you must select the custom option, and then separately add and configure each of these connections.
It is recommended that you specify an account for the connection rather than using the default content access account.
Data is imported from all connected sources at the same time. Full imports include all data in user profiles, while incremental imports include only the user profiles added since the last import.
To configure import settings
Use the following procedure to configure import settings.
Configure import settings
Open the administration page for the SSP, as follows:
On the top link bar, click the Application Management tab.
On the Application Management page, in the Office SharePoint Server Shared Services section, click Create or configure this farm’s shared services.
On the Manage this Farm's Shared Services page, there is a link to each SSP and links to the Web applications for each SSP. Click the link for the SSP that you want to open.
You can also access the SSP by clicking the link to the Shared Services Administration home page in the Shared Services Administration section of Quick Launch.
On the SSP home page, in the User Profiles and My Sites section, click User profiles and properties.
On the User Profiles and Properties page, in the Profiles and Import Settings section, click Configure profile import.
On the Configure Profile Import page, in the Source section, select the source for the import. This is usually the current domain, or the entire forest.
Note
Changing this setting deletes any manually configured connections for the current source.
In the Default Access Account section, select Specify Account and type a name and password for the access account.
Note
It is recommended that you specify an account, rather than relying on the default content access account. To use the default content access account, select Use Default Content Access Account.
Depending on your plan for scheduling user profile imports, select Schedule full import in the Full Import Schedule section, or select Schedule incremental import in the Incremental Import Schedule section, and then select the day and time to schedule the import.
Click OK.
Before continuing with configuration of personalization features, ensure that you have imported all user profiles at least once. To run a full import of user profiles:
- On the User Profiles and Properties page, in the Profile and Import Settings section, click Start full import.
