Calling the Windows Messenger Client

After configuring the Windows Messenger to use the Communications Service account, you can use an IP phone to call the Messenger client or you can use the Messenger client to call to an IP phone.

To call the Messenger client from the IP phone

  • Dial the fully qualified URI of the Messenger client, such as someone@example.com.

This is the sign in name for the Communication Service account. The Messenger client will get a prompt that indicates an incoming voice conversation. The prompt includes the URI of the IP phone that initiated the call.

  • Dial the IP address of the Messenger client.

This is the IP address of the computer. The messenger client will get a prompt that indicates an incoming voice conversation. The prompt identifies the caller as WindowsCE and does not indicate the URI of the IP phone.

To call the IP phone from the Messenger client

  1. From the Actions menu, select Start a Voice Conversation.

  2. Choose the Other tab.

  3. Type the e-mail address, such as someone@example.com.

The e-mail address is the sign in name in the Communications Service account of the Messenger client.
