Connect to a Device with a Remote Tool (Compact 7)

To use a remote tool, you must first establish a connection between your development computer and a Windows Embedded Compact 7 powered device. Windows Embedded Compact Connectivity Manager stores transport and connectivity information for devices that Connectivity Manager uses to connect to the device when you use a remote tool. Connectivity Manager uses the transport and connectivity information that it stores about a device to connect to the device when a transport is first established. You then start the remote tool that you want to use on the device. The next time you start a remote tool, Connectivity Manager displays a dialog box that you can then use to connect to a device that you previously provided transport and connectivity information for.
To connect to a device to use a remote tool
In Visual Studio, on the Target menu, click Connectivity Options.
In the Target Device Connectivity Options dialog box, click Core Service Settings.
Under Target Device, select the device you want, and then verify that the Enable access to desktop files check box is selected.
On the Tools menu, point to Remote Tools, and then click the tool that you want to use.

If the device Launch Options dialog box appears, select a device to connect to, and then click OK.
The selected remote tool opens with an established connection to the device.
If you start a remote tool by using Platform Builder, the tool auto-connects to the device currently connected to Platform Builder. If you do not want to connect the remote tool with the device that it is attempting to connect to, you can manually select and configure a different device to be used with remote tools.
To select a different device to use a remote tool
After clicking a tool that you want to use, in the Launch Options dialog box, click Cancel.
In the Remote Tools Shell window, on the Connection menu, click Manage Devices, and then select and configure a different device.
