Grid Divisions

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

To aid in the placement of notes and the cueing of events on boundaries, the beat in a time signature can be subdivided into grid divisions, more simply called grids. Grids are displayed in the editing windows of sequence and pattern parts.

The timeline in a segment does not show any grid divisions, nor are grid divisions shown on tracks where objects must be inserted on beat boundaries, such as the band and style tracks.

The default 4/4 time signature uses a sixteenth-note grid, or four grids per beat. This value can be changed in the Set Time Signature and Grid Dialog Box. Display this dialog box by clicking the time signature button in the Time Signature Properties window, the Pattern Track Properties window, or the Style Designer Window.
