Secondary Segment Toolbar

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

The Secondary Segment toolbar contains controls for selecting and playing segments and motifs as secondary segments accompanying the component being played as the primary segment. The primary segment is controlled by using the Transport Controls. When you stop the primary segment, all secondary segments stop as well.

The toolbar contains one or more sets of controls, each consisting of a drop-down list of component names, and a Play From Start button. Components might not appear in the list until they have been opened in an editing window.

At the left of the first segment list is a counter that specifies the number of secondary segment control sets displayed. You can enter a new number up to 99 by typing or by using the up-down arrows. Depending on your computer screen size and display settings, you might not see all controls on the screen unless you undock and resize the toolbar. For information on undocking, see Rearranging Views.

The Play From Start button for a secondary segment functions just as it does for a primary segment. For information, see Play From Start Button.

When you click the Play from Start button for a secondary segment, the button changes to a Stop at Boundary Button. This button functions just as it does for a primary segment, that is, playback halts after reaching the performance boundary you set in the Segment Properties window.

The performance boundary setting also affects how quickly a segment begins playback when it is used as a secondary segment. To experiment with different settings for starting a secondary segment, you can temporarily override a segment's start boundary setting in the Secondary Segment Audition Options. Right-click the Play From Start button to display the Secondary Segment Audition Options dialog box.
