Selected and Active Tracks

Editing windows in the Segment Designer and Pattern Editor design modules have multiple selection buttons along the left edge used for selecting the timeline, instrument parts, and tracks.

Click the button to select the track. Selecting a button does not deselect any other one. Selecting a track in a segment also selects any continuous controller (CC) tracks associated with that track. To select adjacent buttons, drag the mouse down the column of selection buttons.

More than one track or part can be selected. Most commands on the File menu, such as Cut and Select All, apply to data in selected tracks or parts. The Delete Track(s) command on the shortcut menu in the editing window also applies to all selected tracks.

Only one track or instrument part can be active. The track becomes active when you click on any part of it. Most commands on the shortcut menu, such as Insert Note and Select All, apply only to the active track or part.

An active track or part is not necessarily selected. However, if no other tracks are selected, commands that normally apply to selected tracks, such as Cut and Delete Track(s), apply to the active track.

Selected buttons are red, as shown in the following figure. The active track has a different shading in the editing area. In the figure, the active track is the first sequence part, shown with no shading. The colors of active and inactive tracks may be different on your screen; see Changing Colors.

Selecting the selection button on the timeline causes the entire timeline to be selected. For information on using the timeline to select data, see Selecting Regions in Segments and Patterns.
