Selecting Regions in Segments and Patterns

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

To select ranges of data in segment tracks and patterns, you select the tracks or parts and use the timeline to select a region within those parts. All data in the selected region can then be cut or copied to the Clipboard, or deleted.

First select the tracks or parts by using the selection buttons. For more information, see Selected and Active Tracks.

Then select a portion of the timeline by dragging the cursor over it, or select the entire timeline by clicking its selection button. You can also select a portion of the timeline by clicking on the start point and then pressing SHIFT when you click on the end point.

The minimum increment when the timeline selection is extended is determined by the Snap To setting.

While the timeline is highlighted, you can click a track's selection button to add it to the selected group of tracks, or click it again to remove it from the selection. While the timeline is highlighted, you can also extend or shorten the selected region by dragging the right end of the region.

The following figure shows a Pattern Editor window where all the notes in the first eight measures of a pattern have been selected.

In the figure, the Chords for Composition selection button is not red; therefore the data in that track is not selected. However, this data can be added to the selection at any time by clicking the track selection button.
