The standard toolbar includes five buttons used for file management, and three window view controls, as shown in the following figure:

The file-management buttons include the following:

  • New

    Starts a new project or adds a new component of any type to an existing project. For information about creating new projects or component files, see Project Management.

  • Open Project

    Opens an existing project.

  • Insert Files

    Adds files of any type to a project. This includes existing DirectMusic Producer components as well as files from inside or outside the DirectMusic Producer environment such as text files and wave files. For information about adding all types of files, see Managing Components.

  • Save Project

    Saves changes made to the selected project.

  • Save File

    Saves changes made to the component in the active editing module. The Save button is disabled if no component is open in an editing window.

The following buttons are used to change how windows are arranged and displayed:

  • Toggle Project Tree

    Turns the display of the project tree on or off.

  • Tile Horizontally

    Arranges the editing windows of the components so they line up from top to bottom without overlapping.

  • Tile Vertically

    Arranges the editing windows so they line up side-by-side without overlapping.
