The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Records Center site provides a way to suspend a record's expiration policy. The Records Center site includes a hold feature that lets records managers protect specified records from expiring and being deleted. For example, in the event of an internal audit or litigation, putting the relevant records on hold ensures that those records, which you may be required to produce, will be available until the audit or litigation is complete.
Tasks for managing holds
Managing holds in a Records Center site is done by performing the following tasks:
Put records on hold. This includes creating holds, finding the records to put on hold, and then placing them on hold.
Take records off hold. You can remove one or more records from a hold, or release all the records that are on a particular hold.
Get information about holds. You can view all holds on a particular record or view a report about all records on a particular hold.
