Startup Server Selection Options (Compact 7)

A startup server is a software feature in remote tools that you can use to download files to a Windows Embedded Compact powered device. The startup server copies files to the device that the Connectivity Manager transport requires. The startup server then uses the files to activate the transport and establishing communication between the development computer and the device. The practice of using a startup server to load the Connectivity Manager transport on demand is an efficient use of memory resources on the device because the device resources are used only when needed for communicating with the development computer instead of being used to maintain a constant connection.
