Patterns

Patterns consist of musical phrases in one or more instrument parts. Unlike notes in a MIDI sequence, notes in patterns can be transposed at run time according to a chord progression. They also contain variations, which are selected at run time in a specified order or with a specified degree of randomness.

Patterns reside in styles and in pattern tracks. Styles can contain many patterns, each of which has properties that determine the appropriate circumstances in which it can play. A pattern track contains a single pattern that always plays (although it could have silent variations).
